DRILL TEAM HISTORY The Scottsdale Saddle Club drill team was first organized in the 1980's, and was then known as the "The Mustangs." This team was comprised of Scottsdale Saddle Club Youth and horses of a variety of colors. The team colors were gold and navy, and riders dressed in military uniforms. Led by Captain John Harvey, they carried a total of five flags, and performed at places such as Rawhide, WestWorld, and the Parada Del Sol. The team sadly disbanded over the years as teens went off to college, and families moved away. However, on August 5th, 2001, the Scottsdale Saddle Club drill team was reborn. With Janelle Pacesas as Captain, the team was formed with only a few saddle club members. The team quickly grew, and three flags were recovered from the old team. The new team had their first performance on October 13th, 2001 at the StoneGate Arena Grand Opening, with a total of 9 riders. Riders included Janelle Pacesas, Fawn Warren, Kristen Philpott, Mimi Philpott, Heather Mansfield, Shauna Mansfield, Becky Coty, Tonia Coty, and Pennie Coty. Today, the team is thriving with 8 members participating on the team, now led by Captain Fawn Warren and Co-Captain Heather Mansfield. Team colors are red and black, and uniforms consist of black jeans, white shirt, vests made reverasble-red sequins or patriotic, matching red tack for the horses, and six flags-four American Flags, one Arizona State Flag, and one Club Flag. Watch for this team in 2006, performing their drills and Grand Entry presentations for crowds around the valley and beyond! The SSCDT is still accepting enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join the team in performing in parades, gymkhanas, horse shows, and special events. Here's your chance to improve your riding skills while having fun. Horses range in a variety of breeds and colors, and riders range in a variety of ages. The team is a CO-ED equestrian precision drill team that rides in western tack.
