LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT

Howdy Members,

This year is getting off to a great start with two gymkhanas, three horse shows and a junior rodeo series already under our belt. Our first ever junior rodeo was lots of fun for all that attended and with lots of prize money given back to the winners too. Thanks to everyone that came out to help make our first junior rodeo run smoothly from all the help in the booth and the new spread sheet made just for the junior rodeo to all the people that brought the cattle and the equipment. It definitely could not have been done without you, thank you again.

Don’t forget about our events coming up in March. We already had an English show on the 2nd but are also having a Western show on the 30th. Also we will be having another junior rodeo series on the 22nd and the gymkhana on the 16th.

Hope to see you all at these events,

Kathy Libonati
SSC President

We have fun and work on our skills as well.

We will be performing at the SSC Rodeo on March 22nd at HLP Roping arena. Hope to see you there.

Don't forget we will be riding in the Cave Creek Fiesta Days parade on April 5th. This is open to all members as well as the drill team.

Gymkhana Report

Hello Everyone,

Our February gymkhana was great with perfect weather and 95 riders. We missed having no leadliners (I love the ”bobblehead” division) hopefully we will see some in March. Be prepared for some crazy events at our March 16th gymkhana. Good luck to all and try to get in some practice.

Remember there are no late entries so you may want to use the option below.

We have made it even easier for you to pre enter please see below and take advantage of this easy pre entry option: A) click on the gymkhana entry form on the web site. B) Then copy the entry form and paste it into an email. C) Fill it out and don’t forget to check the age class or novice class you belong in, the events you are riding in and your personal info along with any time onlys. D) Then just send that email to me at rnkranch95@msn.com E) Upon receiving your pre entry I will send you back an email confirming your pre entry with a total amount due the day of the gymkhana. It’s that simple!!! On the day of the gymkhana there will be a special line for pre entries where you just sign your form and pay with a check or cash and receive your time only tickets. Lets take advantage of this easy pre entry option and help out the SSC volunteers by entering early! You can still send your entry in via postal mail too.

Horse Show Report

By: Wendy Peterson
Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone. March has started off wonderfully well with our second english show being held on March 2nd. We had a great turnout and a lot of new faces. Thank you to everyone who participated and a big thank you to all our volunteers. We couldn't do this without you.

Our first western show in February was a big hit. We had a big turnout for our new ranch horse division. It was exciting to see so many new and returning faces this year. The in-hand trail class was a lot of fun to watch as well. Thank you to everyone who came out and we hope to see all of you on Sunday March 30th for our second show.

Please make sure you are reading and checking over the rules for the shows and the eligibility for year end points. If you were champion or reserve in a walk-trot division you must move up this year. We are also requiring one hour per show of volunteer time so make sure you are getting your hours in.

FOALING MARE'S SECRET CODE

The mare's secret code of honor is as old as horses themselves and is ultimately the species best kept secret. No mare shall ever produce a foal before it's time.

(It's time being determined by the following factors):

1. No foal shall be born until total chaos has been reached by all involved. Your house must be a wreck, your family hungry and desperate for clean clothes, and your social life nonexistent.
2. Midwives must reach the babbling fool status before you foal out. Bloodshot eyes, tangled hair and the inability to form a sentence mean you're getting close.
3. For every bell, beeper, camera or whistle they attach to you, foaling must be delayed by at least one day for each item.
4. Vet check, add a day, internal add three. If you hear the words, "She's nowhere near ready. You'll be fine while I'm away for the weekend," Wait 12 to 16 hours and pop that baby out!
5. Owner stress must be at an all time high! If you are in the care of someone else, ten to fifteen phone calls a day is a sign you're getting close. When you hear the words "I can't take it anymore!" wait three days and produce a foal.
6. You must keep this waiting game interesting. False alarms are necessary! Little teasers such as looking at your stomach, pushing your food around in the bucket and then walking away from it are always good for a rise. Be creative and find new things to do to keep the adrenaline pumping in those who wait.
7. The honor of all horses is now in your hands. Use this time to avenge all of your stable mates. Think about your friend who had to wear that silly costume in front of those people. Hang onto that baby for another day. OH, they made him do tricks too! Three more days seems fair. Late feedings, the dreaded diet, bad haircuts, those awful wormings can also be avenged at this time.
8. If you have fulfilled all of the above and are still not sure when to have this foal, listen to the weather forecast on the radio that has been so generously provided by those who wait. Severe storm warning is what you're waiting for. In the heart of the storm jump into action! The power could go out and you could have the last laugh. You have a good chance of those who wait missing the whole thing while searching for a flashlight that works!
9. Make the most of your interrupted nights. Beg for food each time someone comes into the stable to check you. Your stable mates will love you as the extra goodies fall their way too.
10. Remember, this code of honor was designed to remind man of how truly special horses are. Do your best to reward those who wait with a beautiful filly to carry on the mare code of honor for the next generation of those who wait!
